We do rather love pianos

PIANOS PLUS LOGOAs you may have guessed from Allen’s post earlier this week we are all about the piano in February. We are delighted to present not one but TWO piano trio gigs at the Bello Bar on Friday February 20th and 27th. More details will follow but we just wanted to take this opportunity to thank our kind sponsors, Pianos Plus. We couldn’t do this series without their generosity. Check out their gorgeous ebonies and ivories in this lovely video.

“Trio Trio Piano”, a jazz piano trio series in February.

Here at Jazz on the Terrace I had an idea to put on a series of Jazz Piano Trio Concerts in Dublin. I approached Shane Masterson and Anna Gallagher of the BelloBar in Portobello, Dublin 6 to join with me in presenting the concerts.

The concept was simple but exciting, “Trio Trio Piano”, two jazz piano trios in a jazz club setting with an acoustic piano. Four excellent jazz piano trios bringing their artistry to new audiences.

This two concert series of “Trio Trio Piano” has received a very generous sponsorship from PIANOS PLUS.

There are four trios. These are the Cian Boylan Trio, the Johnny Taylor Trio, the Carole Nelson Trio and CEO, led by Leopoldo Osio.

The concerts will take place in the BelloBar, 1 Portobello Harbour on Friday 20th and Friday 27th of February.

More details to follow, watch this space or follow us on Facebook or Twitter.

Get a taste of Ellister

One of the special guests performing with the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra in the Trubute to Noel Kelehan on November 25th in the National Concert Hall is the exceptional Dutch trumpeter, Ellister van der Molen. In a recent blog post, Ellister expresses her excitement at returning to Dublin: Allen had the pleasure of booking her to play here previously!

To give you a flavour of Ellister's unique talent here is a video of her performing I'm Oldfashioned by Jerome Kern. Don't forget to book your tickets now to avoid disappointment.

A Tribute to Jazz Artist Noel Kelehan

Don't miss this unique tribute concert on Sunday November 25 2012 inthe National Concert Hall. With special guest performances from Ellister Van der Molen on trumpet and Laura MacDonald on saxophone accompanying the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra this promises to be a night to remember.

Universally regarded as one of Ireland's greatest jazz pianists, composers, big band leaders and arrangers, this concert plays tribute to Noel Kelehan's contribution to the jazz music scene with a specially commissioned piece by Ronan Guilfoyle for Dublin City Jazz Orchestra. Formerly known as Dublin City Big Band, founded by Ciaran Wilde and Ray Martin in 2007, the band was established to encourage students at the Bally,un Wind Project in their musical studies. They later became known as the DublinCity Jazz Orchestra for a performance at Electric Picnic in 2008.

Click here to book your ticket now directly from the National Concert Hall.
