“The Pat Came Back”, on Sunday 26 November, will commemorate the musical friendship formed in the 1980s when saxophonist Pat LaBarbera came to Ireland to play with Ronan Guilfoyle’s band Four in One. With the support of Jazz on the Terrace and thanks to Pat’s generosity with his time, LaBarbera, Guilfoyle and his band recorded “Ask a Simple Question” in studio in Dublin in 1988.
On Sunday 26 November, LaBarbera will be back to Dublin to play with the Guilfoyle Nielsen Trio, which is making great music together again in recent years. The Guilfoyle Nielsen Trio is Ronan Guilfoyle (bass guitar) Conor Guilfoyle (drums) and Mike Nielsen (guitar).
Book your tickets today and don’t miss out on this great musical reunion!
The first trio performing at Jazz on The Terrace’s Trio Trio Piano Festival on Thursday 16th November is The Carole Nelson Trio. This trio, comprising Carole on piano, Cormac O’Brien on bass and Dominic Mullan on drums first formed at the Trio Trio Piano Festival organised by Jazz on the Terrace in Dublin in 2015.
We are delighted therefore that the Trio’s first album, One Day in Winter, will be launched at The Trio Trio Trio Piano Festival at Arthur’s Bar this month as part of Jazz on the Terrace’s 35th Anniversary Celebrations. It has always been part of the organisation’s mission to help great jazz happen. Piano Trios are a favourite of Allen’s so it is especially fitting that this launch will be taking place as part of the festival.
The album, all original compositions from Carole, follows the course of one day in winter, inspired by the South County Carlow landscape between the River Barrow and the Blackstairs Mountains where Carole has made her home. This album will be available for purchase at the concert in Arthur’s Bar on November 16th.
Also performing on Thursday 16th November will be the David Berkman Trio so it promises to be a real treat for the ears.
