Dorothy Murphy Quartet enthralls a packed house

Last night in Dublin’s Boom Boom Room Dorothy Murphy and her quartet kicked off Jazz on the Terrace’s “September Song” Festival. With a repertoire that included old favourites (“Somewhere over the Rainbow”, “Angel Eyes”), some of her own compositions (“The Calling”, “Elgeism (LGSM)”) and compositions by members of her quartet (“Static” by Jonathan O’Donovan, guitar), she entertained a rapt audience with her subtle and stylish vocals. Accompanied by Se├ín Carpio on percussion, Andrew Csibi on double bass and Jonathan O’Donovan on guitar, Murphy took the stage as much as a hostess as an entertainer and brought the audience right into her house of song.

The Festival continues throughout September with performances by the Emma Blake Quartet (8.30pm Thurs 08.09.2005), the Christine Tobin Quartet (8.30pm Thurs 15.09.2005) and finishes with Norma Winstone – Tommy Halferty Duo (8.30pm Thurs 22.09.2005). More information on September Song Mini-Site

The Boom Boom Room is upstairs in Conway’s Pub on Parnell St, right opposite the Rotunda (i.e. turn left at the top of O’Connell St.)
